Tasman United make History with Historic Win!

Updated: May 20, 2020

Jess Ibrom's Tasman United side ended Auckland City's unbeaten run in the ISPS National Premiership.

Tasman United brought Auckland City's unbeaten run in the national men's football league to an end on Sunday, boosting their top four hopes in the process.

New Caledonian international Jean Philippe-Saiko struck five minutes into stoppage time to give the hosts a 2-1 win at Trafalgar Park that left them level on points with fourth-placed Eastern Suburbs.

Centre back Fox Slotemaker had given Tasman the lead just before halftime, but Tom Doyle responded almost immediately for City, who were looking to avoid defeat for the 15th match in a row.

Whats even more impressive is the fact that Tasman United became the only national league team to defeat Auckland City in 27 months and 49 games. It was also the first time in history that Tasman United had defeated Auckland City.

Jean Philippe-Saiko runs off to celebrate after scoring the 95th minute winner.
